Best MCP servers for AI video: a sourced comparison

2026-10-20

Equipment cases lined up on a dark studio table, cables running to a single laptop

There is no single best MCP server for video. There is the one that fits what you want back at the end. Some people need a single clip from a named model. Others need a finished cut where the same characters come back shot after shot. This page compares six servers on what their own documentation says, checked on 20 October 2026, so you can pick on facts instead of on a ranking.

One disclosure first. This comparison is published by StoryStudio, which is one of the six servers below. We have not run quality, speed or cost benchmarks across providers, so you will not find a winner here. You will find what each vendor documents, and a clear line between what we read and what we tested.

How to read the table

"Documented" means the vendor's own MCP page says it. "Tested" means we observed it ourselves on the date shown. Everything else is marked as not verified. Model lists change often, so treat them as a snapshot and recheck the source before you commit.

What we tested on StoryStudio, and what we did not

On 20 October 2026, from a Claude Code session that was already connected, we called StoryStudio's `list_models` tool. It returned the video models in the table above, alongside image, voice and music models. That confirms what the server exposes over MCP today.

It does not confirm a first-time connection. First-time OAuth from a new account has not been validated end to end, and neither has a fresh connection from Cursor or Codex. If you try those clients, check that sign-in completes and that the tools appear before you rely on them. The timeline editor is described on our editor page and was not retested for this comparison.

Pick by what you need back

A clip from a specific model, paid per run. fal and Replicate are model catalogs first. Their MCP servers let the agent search models and run them, and fal also exposes a pricing call before generation. Good fit when you know which model you want and you are comfortable choosing parameters yourself.

You already pay for Runway or Higgsfield. Both now offer MCP access to their own plans, including third-party models such as Veo 3.1 and Seedance. So reaching those models from an agent is not exclusive to any one server. If your credits already live there, their MCP is the shortest path.

A presenter or avatar speaking a script. HeyGen's MCP is built around that use. Its video agent takes a prompt and returns a narrated video, and the docs note that custom agents on unlisted domains need to request access.

A short story with recurring characters and several shots. That is the case StoryStudio is designed around: reference images hosted for free, a cast reused across generations, a different model per shot when it helps, then a cut in the browser. Weigh it against the connection status above, and compare credits on our pricing comparison.

Questions worth asking any server

Before you connect anything, read the vendor's own page rather than a review. Look for your exact client in their setup list, and see how sign-in works for it. Then ask a question most comparisons skip: if a long render drops mid-way, can you get the finished file back without paying for a new generation? If you are new to the idea itself, start with what MCP video generation is.

FAQ

Which MCP server is best for AI video? It depends on the output you need. Model catalogs like fal or Replicate suit single clips, HeyGen suits avatar videos, and StoryStudio targets multi-shot stories with recurring characters. We have not benchmarked quality across them.

Can I use Veo 3.1 and Seedance from one MCP server? Yes, several servers document both, including Runway, Higgsfield and StoryStudio. Model lists change, so check each vendor's page on the day you sign up.

Do I need an API key to connect an MCP video server? Not always. fal, Runway, Higgsfield, HeyGen and StoryStudio describe an account sign-in, while Replicate's MCP page relies on a Replicate API token for several clients.
